Adrian Martin Stanga, 93, of Saratoga, California, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. He was born in Abita Springs, Louisiana on December 5, 1922, to John and Nellie Stanga. Adrian, affectionately referred to as "Tater," was the youngest of four children. After military service with the U. S. Army Air Force, Adrian received a B.A. and M.A. from Chico State and, in later life, a doctorate from USC.
Adrian was a passionate man who was committed to civic and community life. He had an illustrious career in education, spanning 30 years and culminating as Assistant Superintendent of the Fremont Union High School District. After retiring from education Adrian owned two clothing stores, including Adrian's of Saratoga. His involvement in community activities reflected his lifelong interest in helping people. Adrian was one of the founders of Celebrate Saratoga, and was recognized as "Citizen of the Year" three times, in Saratoga, Sunnyvale, and Chico.
Adrian was an extremely loving husband and father of five. He was predeceased by his first wife Ona, oldest son Adrian Martin Jr. and second wife Frances. Adrian is survived by his children Terry (Lina), Jeff (Kris), Andria, and Peter (Lisa). Adrian was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Adrian was a charming southern gentleman who showed genuine interest in each and every person he encountered and would remember each person's name and some anecdote about them. For all family, friends, colleagues, and former students, he remembered you to the very end with fond memories, a story (or two) and a smile.
A mass and celebration of Adrian's life will be held at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Los Gatos at 11:00 a.m. on October 29th. A reception at the Saratoga Foothill Club will immediately follow the mass. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Lattice Educational Services at www.latticeeducation.com.
