Albert (Al) passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday, March 6, 2023 at the age of 90.
Albert was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1932 to Gertrude and Raymond Hagmann. Al attended St. John's Prep and St John's University, graduating Valedictorian, earned a Bachelor of Arts completing it in 3 yrs. He joined the U.S. Navy and went to Pensacola Florida for flight training. He retired at the rank of Commander and served on 3 Essex class Aircraft carriers, the Lexington, the Bennington and the Ticonderoga, of which he did 2 combat tours in Vietnam. He was the Intelligence Officer on board ship. When he retired in Hawaii, he moved to San Jose and worked at Lockheed Martin as a Senior Engineer with the cruise missile program, the Space Shuttle and Titan 4 pay loads.
Al belonged to the Knights of Columbus and was the Grand Knight in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was very active coaching softball and Little League. He volunteered as a neighborhood leader w/San Jose Prepared. Al was a docent on the USS Hornet aircraft carrier in Alameda for 10 yrs. He also was a docent at the Ainsley House in Campbell. Al loved baseball, the New York Yankees/Brooklyn Dodgers, the SF Giants and Oakland A's.
Al was married to Patsy Jean McKee Hagmann, for 62 wonderful years. Patsy sadly passed in 2019. Al is survived by his children Maggie Church, Cathy (Tony) Kipping, Ray (Nancy) Hagmann, and Tracy Hagmann; 4 grandchildren, Michael (Raven) Church, Jenna Church, Trevor and Jillian Hagmann, Heather (Chad) Barber, and Christopher Church. He is preceded in death by his sister Marilyn Hagmann Lily.
Services will be held Friday, June 30, 2023 at 10:00a. St Martin of Tours Church, 200 O'Connor Dr, San Jose. Aloha attire preferred.
Inurnment following at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 22555 Cristo Rey Dr, Los Altos at 11:30a with Military Honors. Luau reception to follow.
