Obituary

Albert Paul Tilley was born on July 24, 1930 in Lincoln Nebraska, son of Albert Charles Tilley and Frances Helen (Watson) Tilley.  He died peacefully with his daughter at his side in the early morning of July 13, 2018 at 87 years of age.

Al served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.  He was an officer on the destroyer USS Henderson, surviving a direct hit by Typhoon Marie in December 1954.  He served many years in the Naval Reserves and maintained Naval friendships throughout his life.

Al received his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Nebraska.  After starting his career at Ryan Aeronautical in San Diego, he soon moved to Cupertino where he worked in aerospace design at Lockheed, retiring in his 70's.

On April 3, 1954 Al married his wife of 60 years, Patricia Jean Ricker.

Al had a lifetime love of learning, reading, and mentoring others.  He began reading the encyclopedia at the age of six.  Al enjoyed music including bagpipes, military band marches, and classical.  His many hobbies included war gaming, model trains, and making models of various types.

Al is survived by his daughter Lynn Ellen Tilley Gruver and husband John, his sister Frances Lynn (Tilley) Owens and husband Dennis, and a niece and nephew and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Services will be held at Alameda Family Funeral Home 12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Rd. Saratoga, CA on Tuesday July 24, 2018 at 12:00 PM
