Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, cousin, friend, and wonderful tennis player,Tony. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 61 years, Dale (nee, Lawless) his beautiful daughter, Beth Nelson, his great son-in law, Scott, his wonderful grandsons, Erik and David (Brianna) and two great granddaughters, Marlee and Hazel, his sister in law, Marilyn Schappert, and cousins in both Norway and northern Italy.

He has tremendous love of tennis and fulfilled his dream of going to all the major tennis opens, Wimbledon, Roland Garros, US Open, and Australia Open.

Tony and Dale traveled extensively, going to well over 50 countries and 38 states and nearly all the continents, missing the Antarctic only. He and Dale kayaked in Alaska, bicycled down the pre-alps in Austria and went down the Grand Canyon on a raft. He was devoted to his church, was a Eucharistic minster for over 40 years at Church of Ascension Catholic Church, teaching classes, doing marriage preparation for engaged couples, and servicing on Bishops Financial Committee for four years. He and Dale shared a wonderful Circle of friends through the Marriage Encounter movement in the Catholic Church and have been close friends for nearly 50 years.

He finished his education at San Francisco State with a degree in financing. After he finished school, he worked in the financial field nearly 50 years.

He will be deeply missed by his family, fellow tennis players and his wonderful friends.

Services will be June 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Ascension, 12033 Miller Avenue, Saratoga.
