Ave Maria Catherine Meehan's Obituary
Ave Maria Meehan passed away on September 4th a week shy of her 99th Birthday. She was born in Philadelphia, PA to her parents Thomas and Catherine McLoughery.
Ave met her husband William Joseph Meehan III at the Jersey Shore and after being pursued by him for her beauty and brains she consented to marry him and became a navy bride on October 8, 1942.
Ave enjoyed traveling as a navy wife and living in the Philippine Islands. After settling in Saratoga, CA with her family, Ave continued to enjoy travel, especially cruises, and also playing bridge with a close circle of friends. She regretted not having the opportunity to attend college as a young woman of her generation and created opportunities for all of her daughters to attend college and then when they were done she went on to get her degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management in her 40s. Her skills were put to good use entertaining people in her home.
Ave led a long life with friends and family close at hand. She is survived by three daughters: Virginia Egan, Deborah Meehan, Barbara Meehan; granddaughters Kate Hanzo and Jessica Hanzo; and three great granddaughters. For those who would like to attend her service, it will be held at Sacred Heart as 10AM on October 8th and will be followed by a burial at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga.
