Beverly Traber
Bennett
Jun 11, 1936 — Dec 20, 2021
Saratoga
A San Francisco native, Bev has lived her entire life in the San Jose area, and in Saratoga since 1960. Bev's alma mater is San Jose State University, where Theta chapter of Phi Mu was her affiliation. She later continued at Marquette University in Milwaukee for her Master's in nursing. Bev was part of the team that organized the first NICU at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, where she was employed for 25 years.
While an undergrad at SJSU, she met the love of her life, Glenn T. Bennett. The couple married in 1958. Their family are Kirk and wife, Sheri, of Danville, and Jim and wife, Cathy, of Melbourne, FL, and six grandchildren, Luke and Rachael, of Danville, and Holly, Alyssa, J.T. and Natalie, of Melbourne.
Bev became an Episcopalian at the time of her marriage to Glenn, thus beginning a life-long faith and joy in The Lord. She loved playing her guitar and encouraging people to sing His praise. Through the years her most treasured friendships came through music and the Christian Cursillo community. Bev retired early from hospital nursing to seek her passion, a career in Health Ministry, through which she touched many lives while bringing her nursing expertise to faith communities across the country. A world traveler, Bev was deeply involved in pastoral health care, helping to initiate nursing ministries in both rural and urban congregations. In 1995, she became a founding member of National Episcopal Health Ministries, serving on its first Board of Directors, and authoring several texts guiding congregations in health ministry. She has provided nursing leadership throughout the U.S., teaching, lecturing and mentoring in nursing intervention in faith communities.
A celebration of Bev's life will be held on Saturday February 26th at 1:00 PM, at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, 13601 Saratoga Ave., Saratoga. Loved ones are invited to come and joyfully give thanks for Bev's life! In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or Shriner's Hospital for Children.
