Mrs. Chuen-Huei Chang passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of April 27, 2024. Chuen-Huei Wei was born in Sichuan Province, China, to Wei Chen-Chu, a pilot in the Chinese Air Force, and Liu Huiming, a graduate of Guanghua University. Chuen-Huei was the oldest of 4 children and grew up in Kangshan in the south of Taiwan. She attended Kangshan Air Force Children's Primary School, Kangshan Middle School, and National Tainan Girls' Senior High School. She graduated from National Taiwan University, where she received a bachelor's degree in Foreign Languages and met her husband, Jhy-Jiun Chang.

After a 2-year engagement during which she worked in Taiwan in an export company, Chuen-Huei reunited with Jhy-Jiun at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where they were married and where Chuen-Huei earned a master's degree in library science. They then moved to Rutgers, NJ, where she worked as a librarian, and Santa Barbara, CA. After a short stint at Caltech in Pasadena, CA, they then eventually settled in Sterling Heights, MI, where Jhy-Jiun took a job as an assistant professor at Wayne State University in Detroit and they raised their two daughters.

Chuen-Huei continued her work as a librarian at Detroit Institute of Technology and Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills. She then received her teaching credential and taught Mandarin Chinese, English, and African American literature at Martin Luther King Jr Senior High School in Detroit. She also single-handedly started the Chinese school at her church, which grew from its initial class of 3 students (2 of which were her daughters) to more than 100 at its peak.

Chuen-Huei will be remembered for her energetic personality, her ever present smile, and her love of her family and friends and social activities. Chuen-Huei greatly enjoyed hosting friends for dinner parties at her home, along with her husband JJ. She also loved traveling to different places with her family, such as national parks, and to Taiwan and Hawaii where she had relatives. She had an infectious enthusiasm and a warm heart that propelled her to help anyone that she could.

Chuen-Huei is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jhy-Jiun, daughters Floy (Brian) and Vicki (Steve), and grandchildren Rianna, Loden, Sebastian, and Spencer. She is also survived by her brother Wilson (Nancy) Wei, sister Chen-Ni Jenny (Chung Jen) Wu, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chen-Chu Wei, Huiming Liu, and her sister Chen-Hui Wei.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Alameda Family Funeral & Cremation at 2:30pm on Friday May 17, followed by a reception.
