Daniel Paul Schick was a loving husband, caring father, brother, grandpa, and friends. He left this world suddenly on July 17th, 2024, at the age of 65. He passed while surrounded by his wife, daughter, son and all his loved ones in the ICU of Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose. In the memory of Daniel, we would like to share his life and all his past achievements and how he has affected every one of us in many ways.

Daniel Paul Schick was born on January 13, 1959, to Henry Carl Schick and Therese Lenore Schick. Daniel was the firstborn child of his parents' three children. He grew up in Beekman, New York. He spent his childhood with his younger sibling, Suzanne Lenore Schick, and Robert Henry Schick. In his youth, Daniel loved tinkering with his hands, fixing things, rock collecting, NASA and space exploration, model rockets, and O-gauge model railroads. He enjoyed watching the original Star Trek, Monty Python, and cartoons, a passion that continued into adulthood. As a teenager, Daniel and his siblings participated in the Dutchess County 4-H Baby Beef Steers program, where they raised and showed steers in competitions at the Dutchess County Fair in Rhinebeck, NY. In 1977, Daniel's steer, Bismarck, won the Grand Prize Championship at the 4-H Eastern Exposition held in Springfield Massachusetts. Additionally, Daniel played the cello in junior high and high school orchestras and learned German, the language of his paternal grandparents.

Daniel attended the State University of New York at Oswego (1981) and received a B.S. in Chemistry. After graduation, Daniel attended Alfred University, Alfred (1983) to complete an additional B.S. in Ceramic Engineering. Daniel's interests motivated him to learn about ceramic engineering, process and systems engineering and the industry's impact on the environment. Dan loved to restore and create objects/inventions from cast-off items and inorganic materials.

After graduating, Daniel returned to live in Beekman, NY for one year. In 1984, he traveled west to plant his roots in California, after receiving a job offer at WR Grace in San Jose, CA. Daniel had a strong work ethic and found purpose in his work, challenging himself to take on projects of increasing difficulty, equipped with precise lasers, ceramic fixtures, hot furnaces, and cutting-edge technology.

Daniel met his first wife, Shirley, in 1986. Together, they had a beautiful daughter, Elizabeth Schick, born in 1987. The marriage lasted a few years before they divorced. Daniel remarried his second wife, Anna Dang, in 1994. In 1995, they celebrated the arrival of their son, Jonathan Schick. Daniel was an exceptional husband and father who took great care of his family.

Daniel shared his fascination with the mechanical wonders of model trains with his son and daughter, frequently attending the Golden Gate Lionel Railroad Club meetups together. He often purchased large wooden train sets for his son, and they would spend enjoyable hours watching and operating the trains.

In his spare time, Dan was an avid nature lover, always enjoying biking and hiking. He had a particular fondness for Starbucks coffee and loved listening to jazz. Dan also loved to tinker, often finding cast-off treasures that he would repair, restore, and renew, giving them another life and purpose. Dan was a loving father, a caring husband, and a strong brotherly figure to all his siblings. He was a kind, compassionate soul who touched the hearts of everyone around him with his laugh and humor. He will always live forever in everyone's hearts.
