Obituary

David W. Burgoon, Jr., diplomat and immigration-law advisor, passed away on July 22, 2016. He was born (June 13, 1928) and raised in Chicago, Illinois, and is a graduate of Oberlin College (1950). David served in the US Navy during the Korean War before launching a career as a Foreign Service Officer for the US Dept. of State. His posts included Mexico, Canada, Afghanistan, Ecuador, Bolivia and Nicaragua. In 1979, David launched a second career as an immigration-law advisor with Bonaparte Law in Los Angeles. Upon retirement, David became a devoted volunteer for a range of community-based centers serving immigrant communities in Wisconsin, Ohio and California. In 2005, David made his home in the S.F. Bay area, with his life-long partner and wife Caroline C. Burgoon (1936-2014). David is survived by his four children: David Alford Burgoon, Kathy Burgoon Armstrong, Brian Burgoon and Ian Burgoon. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew and worked with him, and by the many whose lives he strived to better. Burial services will be held on August 19th, at 1:00pm, at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, Cupertino, CA.
