Douglas G.
Snyder
Dec 14, 1934 — Oct 14, 2018
San Jose
Born on December 14, 1934, in Niagara Falls, NY, to Cecil and Maybelle Snyder, Doug was the youngest of four children, including two brothers, Duane and Ronald (both deceased), and sister, Joan Cussen. There were hard times in his childhood after his mother died when he was just 4 years old. He always said, though, that he grew up with the love of his father who kept the family together. In 1954 he joined the US Air Force for four years. In 1960 Doug married Annette Turcotte in Sacred Heart Church in Niagara Falls after which they drove cross-country with wedding gifts pulled in a mini trailer behind their 1956 Ford. After a few months in San Jose, they moved to Hollister and then to Gilroy, finally coming back to San Jose in 1966 where they remained. Doug had a variety of jobs but eventually became a general contractor and then a real estate broker. In February 2017 he was diagnosed with ALS. Short in stature but larger than life, Doug endeared himself to family, friends, and strangers. Whether it was his hand in his wallet or in the air volunteering, he had a generous and kind nature, was a loving husband, and a role model for his children. He and his wife, Annette, were long-time members of Church of the Ascension where Doug was an active member of the Men's Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sister, Joan Cussen, and children: Laurie Hostmeyer, Daniel Snyder (Martin Haye), Katie Snyder, and Pamela Snyder Sternberg (Adam Sternberg.) Son, Stephen Snyder, predeceased him. Dear to his heart are grandchildren, Jared Hostmeyer (Brooke), Sean Hostmeyer, Dana Hostmeyer, Sage Snyder-Bibbes, Sofie Sternberg, and Leah Sternberg and great-grandchildren, Emma and Jack Hostmeyer, as well as a brother-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral and Celebration of Life will be at Church of the Ascension,12033 Miller Ave, Saratoga CA 95070 on November 2, 2018, at 11:30 am with reception to follow in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Patrick Fathers, 8422 West Windsor Ave., Chicago IL 60656 or ALS Association Golden West Chapter, PO Box 565, Agoura Hills CA 91376.
