Dru Totman passed away peacefully April 24, 2018.  Dru was born in Stockton, CA, on July 31, 1925.  She grew up on the family farm an only child.  Her friends as a child were mostly the children of Japanese American workers, and she was devastated when her best friend was shipped off to an internment camp during World War II.  In high school, Dru was a majorette, and she remained proficient at twirling a baton for a long time afterwards.

Dru attended Anna Head school, a preparatory school in Oakland, CA, and then UC Berkeley, where she majored in child development and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.  She remained close to her sorority sisters throughout her life and was sad to outlive most of them.  In 1949, she married Robert Totman, whom she had known in school but not dated, and who was born 40 minutes before she was, a source of merriment throughout her life.  In 1950, their daughter, Judy (Parrish), was born, and in 1954, their son, Chuck was born.

Dru was a beautiful, intelligent, and talented woman.  Her occupation was homemaker, and she made a beautiful home for our family.  She was an amazing and adventurous cook, an outdoorswoman, and talented in everything she determined to try, including quilting, knitting and crocheting, needlepoint, painting, poetry, weaving pine needle baskets, and being a great mom.  We camped all around the West and in the lake district of Minnesota, and Dru brought her homemaking and cooking skills along.  After Bob retired, they traveled extensively to Europe, Asia, Oceania, and Africa, concluding their travel in their late 80s with a seven-week cruise that ventured as far south as Antarctica.

When Dru and Bob moved to Saratoga Retirement Community, she was active on numerous committees, including the hospitality committee, which was well suited to her talents.

Dru is survived by her husband, Bob; her children, Chuck Totman (Janet) and Judy Parrish (Don Isham); her granddaughters, Michelle Totman and Jennifer Claassen (Clint), and her great-grandson, Logan; and her beloved rescue dog, Winnie.  Dru's ashes will be interred at First Presbyterian Church in Burlingame, CA, which she and Bob attended for many years before moving to Saratoga.  A memorial in celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
