Georgine Irma
Drees Premo
Jan 2, 1937 — Mar 7, 2022
Saratoga
On March 7, 2022, Georgine Irma Drees Premo passed away in the home she built with her beloved husband following a valiant fight with cancer. She spent her final months and days surrounded by her four children, her grandchildren and other loving family members.
Georgine was born and raised in San Francisco to parents, Dr. Lawler Drees, a medical doctor and WWII veteran, and Leonie Marie Louise Thomé, a nurse, who emigrated with her family from Belgium. With her elder brother, Adolph (Dick) Drees, Georgine and the family moved to Colma to be closer to the hospital run by her parents. After attending Notre Dame des Victoires school in San Francisco, Georgine attended Sacred Heart Menlo founded by the Convent of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a religious order dedicated to educating young women. She thrived at Sacred Heart, was elected class president while earning a blue ribbon, the highest honor awarded to high school seniors. Georgine continued her education at San Francisco College for Women (Lone Mountain). Her college years further strengthened her devotion to the Sacred Heart nuns, while deepening what would become life-long friendships with her classmates.
She graduated college early to marry the love of her life, Eugene Premo, her husband of 62 years. They first met as kids at their parents' weekend homes at The Butano, near Pescadero. Georgine worked as an elementary teacher before she and Gene began their family of four, Nicole, Michelle, Patrick and Richard, settling in Saratoga in 1965.
Her love of family, education and her faith guided and inspired her life as a wife and mother. She was an active and dedicated parent volunteering in all of her kids' activities including spending countless hours at Sacred Heart School where her children attended. Georgine had a passion for the arts particularly the visual arts and ballet. She enjoyed both creative writing and floral arranging. She pushed herself to hone her creative talents and was particularly proud in earning an Advanced Certification in the WAFU School of Ikebana. Her arrangements were featured in Cupertino's Annual Ikebana Flower Festival. She shared her talents as a long-time volunteer at Filoli Historic House & Garden. Georgine was also an active and dedicated member of St. Mary's parish of Los Gatos. She was thankful and touched by the friendships and fellowship that these communities afforded her.
Georgine was immensely proud of her family, particularly her nine grandchildren – John, Jessica, Katherine, William, Isabella, Carolyn, Jonah, Charles and Luca. As she did for her own children, she treated every birthday, holiday, school and sporting activity as importantly as the last. Gene and Georgine relished being fulltime grandparents and spending time with their family. Their devotion to family and faith, and the strength of their children and grandchildren, will be their longest lasting legacy.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Georgine is survived by her sons-in-law (Herb Mesler and Brian Walsh), her daughter-in-law (Suzanne Premo), her in-laws (Robert Enright, Florence and Joe Ziemann, and Carol Premo), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, his parents (Dr. and Mrs. Milton Premo), her brother, sisters-in-law (Jane Drees and Roberta Enright), brother-in-law (John Premo), and nephew (Joe Drees).
Services honoring Georgine's life are planned with a rosary to be held on March 29, 2022 at 7 pm at the Alameda Family Funeral Home in Saratoga. It will be live-streamed ( https://vimeo.com/689852257/40786ecef2 ).
The funeral mass will be offered at St. Mary's Church, 219 Bean Avenue, Los Gatos on Wednesday, March 30 at 11 am. It will be live-streamed on the St. Mary's website ( https://venue.streamspot.com/event/MzEyNTY4Mw== ). A graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm at Madronia Cemetery, 14766 Oak St, Saratoga. Family and friends are respectfully invited to a reception celebrating the lives of Georgine and Eugene Premo at their home at 19161 Portos Drive, Saratoga, immediately following the burial.
