Gerardo A. Retamoso passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the age of 76 with his son by his side. An avid traveler, Jerry especially loved dancing the tango, driving his Vespa and spending time with his two granddaughters.
Jerry will be greatly missed by his wife of 52 years, Nilda Mordillo Retamoso; son, Sidney Alain, daughter-in-law, Jeannie Pruitt Retamoso; granddaughters Alaina and Karina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Pedro and Perla Retamoso, and his two sisters Nora and Emilce.
Born November 3, 1940 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Jerry immigrated to the United States in 1964 with his wife, Nilda. The couple settled in Hollywood and began the first of many business ventures including delivering bread and milk, as well as the purchase of a Carvel ice cream store in 1971 and a catering truck in 1974. Seeing all the opportunities arising in Silicon Valley, Jerry moved to Mountain View in 1976 bringing the catering truck and his wife and son, Sidney, with him. Soon thereafter, the family purchased their home on McCoy Avenue in Saratoga where Sidney lives with his family. Jerry remained a resident of Saratoga until his passing.
Jerry and Nilda purchased Village Pizzeria on Stevens Creek Boulevard in 1981 and later renamed the restaurant Villagio Ristorante. It was there that Jerry reigned over the kitchen and Nilda the front of the house until Sidney took over in the kitchen in 1990.
Traveling across the United States, and around the world to places such as Argentina, Spain, Italy, London, and Mexico, was the highlight of Jerry's retirement years. When back home in Saratoga, he enjoyed a warm cup of Argentinian Yerba Mate, Nilda's home-cooked meals and the frequent visits of his granddaughters.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 13716 Saratoga Ave., Saratoga, CA, with a reception to follow. Interment at Madronia Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to or the Pan American Round Table of Los Gatos-Saratoga or Sacred Heart Church Saratoga.
