Goubran (Gabi) Mikhail Achkar of Saratoga, California passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at the age of 88.  Gabi died peacefully with both his children by his side in Portland Oregon.

Adoring son of Mikhail Achkar and Helen Athanasius who preceded him. Beloved husband of the late Therese Antonopoulos Achkar.  Proud father of Mylene Achkar and Michael Achkar.  Dearest brother of Catherine Achkar and the late Marjuerite Achkar. Adoring Nonno to Michael John Wilkes, Christian Gabriel Achkar, and Madeline Anthy Achkar. Caring uncle for many nieces and nephews, and valued friend to so many.

At the age of 37, with ten dollars in his pocket, a dream, a wife and two young children, Gabi packed his bags in 1970 with a one-way ticket from Alexandria, Egypt to America, San Jose, Ca to be exact. Once in the United States, Gabi and his wife Therese opened "Gabi Jewels" in the Pruneyard Shopping Center, Campbell. They worked hard for over 35 years while always helping and contributing to their community. An Egyptian National Ping Pong Champion, Gabi enjoyed playing tennis at Courtside Club in Los Gatos, socializing and always laughing with his many close friends, and playing backgammon with the "Greek Boys" at the local coffee shop.

He will be missed by so many, and will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife of 52 years.  We rejoice that they are together again, forever.

People wishing to honor Gabi's lifelong commitment to family can make donations in his name to The Unity Care Group - focused on at-risk and under-served children, youth, and their families in Santa Clara County.

Viewing from 4:30 to 5:00pm followed by a Vigil Service from 5:00 to 6:00pm- Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at St. Christopher's Church located at 2278 Booksin Ave, San Jose, CA 95125

Graveside Burial Service, Wednesday, April 28th at 12:00pm at Madronia Cemetery located at 14766 Oak St, Saratoga, CA 95070
