Griffith Michael "Mike" Brown

(December 19, 1934 - January 12, 2018: died age 83)

Resident of Saratoga

Mike Brown passed away peacefully after a short illness, his loving family nearby.  He is remembered by all who knew him for his kind heart, his optimism, and his steadfast reliability and sensibility.  He will be deeply missed.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Mike was the younger of two children, and was preceded in death by his sister, Lois.  He worked through high school in his father's pharmacy, and then attended the University of Pennsylvania, earning a BS in Electrical Engineering.  After college, he joined The Western Electric Corporation, spending his 40 year career in executive/management positions until his retirement in 1996.

Mike met the love of his life, Lois Margaret O'Callaghan, in 1957. Mike and Lois married in 1958, and celebrated 59 years of marriage last November.  Theirs has been a loving, exemplary bond, strongly devoted to each other, their family, and their faith.

Mike and Lois were long time members of the Saratoga Presbyterian Church, where Mike served as an Elder for many years.

In addition to his strong commitments to family and work, Mike loved life and showed it.  He was a rabid 49er fan and followed sports of all kinds, especially golf. He was a fixture at the San Jose Country Club for the last twenty-one years, thoroughly enjoying the game and time spent with his many friends. His interests and hobbies included travel, model trains, reading and crossword puzzles.

His infectious, positive spirit, compassionate heart, and quick wit engendered affection and respect from all who had the benefit of knowing him.

Mike was the father of Griffith Brown of Campbell, CA, Tracy Brown Sazima of Granite Bay, CA (Greg), and  Scott Brown of Leawood, KS (Hannelore). He was the beloved grandfather of seven grandchildren - Heidi, Erika, Sophie, and Hamilton Brown, and Ryan, Matthew, and Andrew Sazima - whom he loved dearly.

Mike's family wishes to express our gratitude to the physicians, residents and staff of O'Connor Hospital for their excellent and loving care of him in his final days.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial in Mike's honor on Saturday, February 3rd, 2018, 2 pm, at Menlo Church Saratoga, 20455 Herriman Ave, Saratoga, CA.
