Professor Gurbaksh Singh Sachdev was born October 3, 1919, and passed away on January 8, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.

He grew up in Amritsar, India, in a large extended family and was the fourth of six children. Professor Sachdev was married for 68 years to his perfect life partner, the late Ranjit Sachdev who shared his passion for a free India, education, and equality. He was an intellectual and educated scores of students as a professor of literature and political science in India. Professor Sachdev continued his literary accomplishments after he immigrated to the United States in 1981, writing articles for journals and books and speaking at conferences at universities.

He moved to the United States to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Professor Sachdev soon became a father figure to many in the Bay Area where he was lovingly referred to as "Papaji" by this extended family and friends.

He lived a full life, always sharing pearls of wisdom, history lessons, and of course, a joke to all around him. His parting lesson to his family and friends was that life is not for grieving, but instead for enjoying.

Professor Sachdev is survived by his children: Harmeet and Tripta Sachdev, Kamal and Amarjit Bakshi, Madhu and Jasvinder Kochar, grandchildren: Mona and Sainath, Noor, Preeti and Vikas, Nina and Raghupreet, Mohit, and Kyrpa, great grandchildren: Bailey, Moni, Saahil, Sammy, Zoraver, and brother Joginder Sachdev.

The funeral will be followed by Gurdwara services at San Jose Gurdwara from 12-1 pm.
