Jack Mallory, officially John F. Mallory III, passed away peacefully on March 4 ^th at age 86.  He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, to John Franklin Mallory and Ruth Etter Mallory.  Jack graduated from East High School in 1954, attended Penn State Erie's Behrend Center for two years and graduated from Penn State University with a major in Psychology where he met his first and only love, Susanne "Sue" Smith.  1961 was a big year as he married Sue, received an MBA from Penn State, joined the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve (serving until 1969), and was hired by Westinghouse in the Personnel department in Pittsburgh, PA.  Three years later, Jack and Sue moved to California through a transfer to the Westinghouse Marine division in Sunnyvale where he worked for 35 years.

Passionate about community involvement, Jack was extremely active in local Saratoga activities.  His many honors include: Saratoga Citizen of the Year in 1994, Saratoga Historical Foundation's "Honoring Saratogans" event in 2018 and a Commendation Award from Saratoga City Council on July 4 ^th 2022.   He served on Saratoga's City Council 1980 to 1984, traveled to Japan three times as part of the Japanese Sister City program, started Saratoga's July 4th celebration for seven years (that continues today), led the drive to save Saratoga's North Campus on Prospect Road, chaired ticket sales for the Last Pop (part of the closing of Paul Masson Champagne cellars) and organized the 1989 Gala event for Celebrate Saratoga.  He was a long-time member of the Saratoga Men's club and a treasured Usher for the Saratoga Federated Church.

A fan of historical costumes, Jack delighted Saratogans for many years portraying Father Christmas, the Reverend Sunshine Williams (founder of the Blossom Festival), and Thomas Paine for July 4 ^th celebrations, with Sue dressed up accordingly.  He also wore revolutionary war attire in many parades and events with the SAR, Sons of the American Revolution.

Jack also served as Trustee of Hakone Gardens from 1989-1994, President of the Northwest Saratoga Homeowner's Association, President of VITA and a board member 1984 to 1987, one of the founders of the Liberty Forum of Silicon Valley, Advisory Committee of Our Lady of Fatima Villa nursing home 1993 to 2002, and Board of the Saratoga Historical Foundation 2003 to 2009.  He volunteered at the Friends of the Saratoga Library and the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce.

Dedicated to helping others, he earned the Minority Service Award through Westinghouse for exceptional work with community minority organizations.  In 1976, he helped find employment for many Vietnamese sponsored by Church of the Ascension.  And he rang bells for the Salvation Army Christmas collection for years.

Jack loved his home state of Pennsylvania.  He was a loyal Penn Stater and an active member of the local Penn State Club which inspired him to start the Groundhog Club of Silicon Valley and an annual Groundhog Ball.    Jack and Sue made many trips back to PA, attending numerous family, high school and college reunions. After he got hooked on genealogy, Jack worked with family to secure a new headstone for their revolutionary soldier ancestor, Nathaniel Mallory.

Outside of work and Saratoga activities, Jack helped create a fun and festive neighborhood where he and Sue raised their girls and lived for 55 years.  Volleyball and ping-pong games evolved into Fourth of July parades and big theme parties at various homes, including luaus and a western barbeque.  He also enjoyed growing cymbidium orchids and selling time capsules to encourage gatherings.

Jack was a loving husband and a proud father of his two daughters, Holly and Stacy, and his four grandchildren.  Holly Fidrych (Bob) live in Campbell with children Mallory and RJ, and Stacy Tredennick (Scott) live in Danville with Ryan and Cole.  Brother Tom Mallory (Jane) and niece, Michele Mallory Lewis, and nephew Tom (Jen) Mallory II, live in Edinboro, PA.

A private burial took place on March 13 ^th at Saratoga's Madronia Cemetery.  Jack's Celebration of Life service was held Friday, March 24 ^th at Saratoga Federated Church with a reception following at Saratoga Foothill Club.  In lieu of flowers, donations were directed to the Alzheimer's Association or the Salvation Army.
