Our beloved brother, James E. Loos, II (Jim) passed away peacefully from this life surrounded by siblings at the age of 67 on September 23 in San Jose, California. He was born on May 30, 1955, on Memorial Day, to James E. (Jim) Loos, Sr. and Evelyn (Johnson) Loos in La Jolla, California, the first of six children. Despite the challenges he was born with, he was always a huge part of our life, much loved by his large family, many aunts and uncles, cousins, friends and neighbors. The family moved from San Diego in the early 1960s to Altadena and then to Saratoga, to a house that was so full of life for family, friends and the neighborhood for 34 years.

Jim attended school in San Diego, Altadena, and Saratoga. He was exceptionally bright and had a keen interest in astronomy, space exploration and all things aeronautical. Camping and outdoor adventures were a mainstay of family life. Jim went on many "50 miler" backpack trips with the Boy Scouts with his dad and brothers, and went with his siblings and friends to many airshows, backpacking and skiing adventures and lots of other outings. At West Valley College, he managed the baseball team and, as a young man, was involved in ski clubs, youth and adult organizations. In the St. Lawrence young adult group, Jim was very active and incredibly generous with his time and energy in helping with many of the group's events, including countless Thursday night volleyball events at the parish, for which Jim was the main person responsible for getting the parish gym ready for everybody to enjoy. Jim worked at Lockheed in Sunnyvale as an electronic circuits development technician from his mid-twenties until his mid-forties. His accomplishments there included the building of ballistic missiles and the Hubble Space Telescope.  Jim was a very dedicated and diligent Lockheed associate during his days at Lockheed, a blessing and true friend to those who worked with him.

In Jim's mid-forties, his disabilities got the better of him, and he took early retirement from Lockheed. He remained in his apartment in San Jose until 2015, when he suffered a severe leg break, precipitating his move to assisted living close to his parents' home in the Villages in San Jose.

The isolation from the pandemic in 2020 was exceptionally difficult for Jim, and his health began to decline. In June of this year, Jim became quadriplegic due to severe neck and spine issues, followed by a stroke. He fought bravely, but by mid-September, it was clear to family and medical staff that Jim needed Palliative care, and Jim moved to a wonderful, small and caring facility nearby. His family remained faithfully at his side throughout this long ordeal and was with him as he passed peacefully on September 23.

Jim is pre-deceased by his parents and his favorite brother-in-law, Richard (Rick) G. Magarian, his aunts and uncles Mary (Loos) Brown, John (Jack) Brown, Robert (Bob) Loos, Margaret (Peg) (Myers) Loos and John (Jack) Loos, Richard (Dick) Johnson and Rosemary ("Jeff" Jeffreys) Johnson and cousins Mary Loos, Steve Loos and Janet Loos.

Jim leaves behind his sisters Margaret (Peg) Magarian and Anne Loos, his brothers Stephen (Steve) Loos, Joseph (Joe) Loos and Paul Loos Callan, sisters-in-law Kym Spangler, Wendy Murata and Skye Callan, his nephews Christopher (Chris) McCaw, Nicholas (Nick) Magarian, Thomas (Tom) Magarian, Christopher (Chris) Loos, Zachary (Zach) Loos, Brian Loos and Braige Callan, and nieces Johnnie Callan and Seven Callan. He is also survived by his aunt, Dorothea (Rochinski) Loos of San Diego and many cousins and wonderful friends.

We were devoted to our beloved brother and uncle, no matter the challenges and hardships he endured, remaining at his side, doing his battles, never giving up. While it is difficult to say good-bye to him in this life, we are consoled that his suffering here on earth has ended and he is now perfectly healthy and whole with Mom and Dad in heaven. No more pain, no more health challenges, and he is finally able to hear perfectly.

Visitation and Rosary will be held on Thursday, November 3 at 7pm at the Alameda Family Funeral & Cremation at 12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road in Saratoga.

The memorial mass will be held on Friday, November 4 at 11am at Sacred Heart Church at 13716 Saratoga Avenue, and inurnment will follow immediately at Madronia Cemetery, 14766 Oak Street, in Saratoga.
