James R.
Macmorran
Jun 29, 1928 — Sep 18, 2022
Resident of Saratoga and San Jose
Our beloved father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at the age of 94 after a long illness. He was a 43 year resident of Saratoga, moving to the Villages in San Jose in 2007.
Jim was born on June 29, 1928 at his grandfather's home in Chester, Pennsylvania to John and Gertrude MacMorran. He was a 1946 graduate of St. James High School in Chester and a 1950 graduate of Villanova University in mechanical engineering. He was proud to have served in the US Army from 1951-1953 (working as an engineer) during the Korean War. He spent the remainder of his long career as an engineer and engineering manager at Westinghouse Corporation, first in Philadelphia, then in Sunnyvale, CA. His projects included the design and development of turbine generator sets for the Nimitz class aircraft carriers and Trident submarines.
He was united in marriage to Nancy Madden on September 22, 1956. He is survived by his five daughters, Beth (Patrick) Stiennon, Kathleen Campbell, Jennifer (Kevin) Kirmse, Jill (Scott) Stanley, Judy (Todd) Logan, thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy, his parents, his brother Jack and his sister Patricia Miles.
Jim will always be remembered as a kind and decent man, as well as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Our family will be eternally grateful for the wonderful loving care he received from Jonathan, Normita, Lisa, Steve, Airene and his other care providers at Juliette Gardens.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 29, 2022 with a reception to follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Saratoga. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to breast cancer research or Alzheimer's research.
