Obituary

Jane Lu Shaw passed away on 5 October 2022, near her home in Saratoga, California. She was born on 13 July 1937 to Lu Kai-Yuan and Lu Kung Shu-teh, in Nanjing, China. She was the youngest of four children and the only daughter.

She graduated from National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan with a Bachelor's degree in Chinese Literature in 1961. She married her longtime sweetheart Gene Shi Shaw on 12 November 1962. The couple eventually had three daughters, to whom they were lovingly devoted.

Elaine was born in 1963. Gene was first to be cleared for immigration to the US, to Houston, Texas as a graduate student in 1964, which meant leaving behind his beloved Jane and baby Elaine. Jane worked full-time, with the help of her mother and a nanny to care for little Elaine.  In 1966, Jane and Elaine were cleared to immigrate to the US, and the three were reunited as a family.

Wendy was born in Houston in 1968. The family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area for some years, and then back to Houston, where Jenny was born in 1976. The family finally settled in Saratoga, California in 1977.

Jane returned to the workforce around 1978, after being a stay-at-home mom for 15 years. She eventually found her career in real estate. Jane enjoyed over 40 years as a real estate agent, loan officer, and notary, making her last active sale when she was 82 years old!

Jane was always an "A" student and a lifelong learner—taking classes at West Valley College, De Anza College, and later at the Cupertino Senior Center. She loved classes in English, Spanish, Accounting, Chinese Calligraphy, Erhu (2-stringed Chinese instrument)  Line Dancing, Hula Dancing, Yoga, Pilates, TaiChi, Qi Gong, Feng Shui, and learning to use the iPad.  She was a devoted wife, caring mother, loving grandmother to her five grandchildren, fun and loyal friend who filled her life with reunions, vacations, lunches, dinner parties, hikes, and long phone calls with friends. She was a faithful Christian attending Friday night Fellowship and Sunday services until the pandemic lockdown in March 2020.

Jane is survived by her daughters Elaine Shaw (husband Henry Clemmons, daughter Maya Clemmons), Wendy Shaw Dahl (husband Patrick Dahl, son Christopher Dahl), and Jenny Shaw (husband Matthew Visick, son Woods, daughters Vesper and Bellatrix Visick), and brother Eddie Lu. (wife Lillian and sons TH, Tim, and David)
