*In Loving Memory of my Amma, Jaya Subramanian*

With deep devotion and profound gratitude, we celebrate the remarkable life of Jaya Subramanian (Amma) - mother of Dr. Vidhya Subramanian and Raghu Srivatsa who passed away peacefully in San Jose, California on August 2, 2026, at the age of 80.

Born in Bombay on March 17, 1946, Amma was raised in a traditional Indian family during an era when a woman’s primary and often only—expected role was that of a homemaker. Raised in a very loving home, her early life gave little hint of the resilience, fortitude and intelligence that lay within her.

Her life brought unforeseen hardship and her beloved husband, an engineer, suffered incapacitation, Amma took charge and stepped boldly into the workforce for the very first time. Undeterred by adversity, she pursued higher education with fierce resolve, earning multiple Master’s degrees and credentials to become a devoted Teacher of English Literature.

Through sheer grit and unwavering love, Amma became the anchor for her household — caring for her ill husband while nurturing and providing for her young daughter and son. Relentless, no-nonsense, and intensely goal-oriented, she set high standards and cleared every path to ensure her children thrived.

Through her guidance, both children achieved phenomenal American success stories: her daughter as an acclaimed Endocrinologist, and her son as an Engineer with top technology companies. Watching her children grow and blossom was what Amma beautifully termed her *"rightful pride."*

Beyond her household, Amma was the loving heart and soul of her extended family. She was the bridge that bound disparate relations together across generations and distances, always making time for long phone calls, thoughtful check-ins, and warm personal visits. Amma left a strong positive impression on anyone who met her.

She was always curious, learning programming in her 40s, becoming adept with modern technology and actively participating in social media platforms.

Amma leaves behind an enduring legacy of resilience, sacrifice, intellect, and devotion. Her strength remains an inspiration to all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family forever.
