Jean Cowie
Floyd
Jun 28, 1929 — Jun 3, 2017
Saratoga
oyd, Jean C. of Saratoga died peacefully on June 3 rd in Pleasanton, California at the age of 87. Jean was preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 53 years, Russell, her parents Edward and Frieda Cowie, and her sister and brother-in-law, Jessie and Bill Ramsay. She is survived by her loving son, Douglas, daughter-in-law Carmen, three grandchildren, Travis, Matthew and Steven of Pleasanton, and brother-in-law Harry Floyd and his family.
Jean was born in Schenectady, New York and grew up on the East Coast. She was a graduate of Colby College in Maine and a proud and enthusiastic member of the Tri Deltas Sorority until health issues hindered her active participation. After graduation, she worked as a secretary for Atlantic Refining Company in Philadelphia, where a mutual friend introduced her to her future husband, Russ. Jean retired to care for their precious newborn son and perfect her impressive homemaking skills. In 1969, they moved from the East Coast to Saratoga, in the heart what would become known as the Silicon Valley, where Russ joined Phillips Electronics. Jean later returned to the workforce as a secretary for Westfall Engineers. They lived together in their beloved Saratoga house for 42 years, forging lasting new friendships, maintaining childhood relationships from across the nation, and becoming active members of Saratoga Federated Church. Jean enjoyed entertaining for her Tri Delts and church friends, sewing, and cooking. She meticulously maintained a vast recipe collection, and always had a fresh batch of cookies on hand for her grandsons' visits. She was a history buff who loved reading and was a great fan of Gone with The Wind and Jackie Onassis. Anyone who knew Jean knew her sweet demeanor, her fondness for pansies, her expert hostessing skills, and her unsurpassed love of animals.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends honor her memory by donating to the Humane Society of Silicon Valley http://www.hssv.org/ , a charity Jean supported passionately.
