Obituary

Jean Merryfield passed away quietly and peacefully on July 17, 2016 at the eternally young age of 103+. Jean was born to Charles and Stella Romero on January 01 1913 in Sopris, Colorado; she was the fourth of nine children. Jean was a loving Mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Jean is survived by her two daughters Carol Ryan and Sharon Smith, 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and her life partner Monte Reijo. Jean was an adventurer all her life from hopping freight trains at the age of 15 to building airplanes during the war effort (one of the original "Rosie the riveter") to singing in Cabarets to entertain the troops. She was a world traveler and even moved to the Caribou region of Canada for a few years to help Monte build a log cabin. She finally settled down in 1969 and bought a cottage in Capitol by the sea. But most of all Jean was a writer. Jean was a published creator of romance short stories and the never quit finished novel "Forbidden Love". Jean's family would like to thank all the truly attentive and caring staff at SarahCare Center, Westgate Villa, and Campbell Village for providing Jean the hospitality and companionship in the final years of her life. And the truly wonderful staff at PATHWAYS Hospice Foundation for providing peace and comfort that Jean needed in her final days. A Funeral service will be held at Saint Thomas of Canterbury Catholic church on August 27, 2016 at 11:00am. A small reception will follow the service.
