They attended Sacred Heart Church in Saratoga and were devoted parishioners. John was a lectern and usher at the church for many years. Their children Jennifer, Terry, and Cathleen attended Sacred Heart School and Saint Francis High School.

After he retired, John volunteered at the Tech Museum of San Jose and loved watching history programs on TV.

He has two grandchildren, Catherine Diane Creager and Delaney Colette Creager. His other siblings, all passed, were Patricia, Marion and Billy of Cleveland.
