Obituary

John Emewulu Nicholas Okonkwo, 76, from Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra, passed away on October 12, 2018 at home.

"Prof." or Emy, as he was fondly known, was a darling husband to his loving wife; wonderful father to nine children, fantastic grandpa to seven grandchildren and a no-nonsense father-in-law to five sons-in-law. As cliché as it might sound, every and anyone that knew Prof, understood that you did not mess with his family – the thought just did not even cross your mind!!

Prof was a very special and unique man in all rights. As a Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics, he brought hope to women, men and families. He was great at his profession, which was his passion. As a husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, confidant and friend, he was a very selfless man. He was a firm believer of the good news of Jehovah's kingdom, a mentor, life-partner, caregiver, provider, always lending a listening ear, a divine hug-it-out guy and an overall exceptional man. He was a success story who overcame trials and tribulations to become an accomplished man. The love he bestowed on the lives he touched can be literally felt from all corners of the earth.

In addition to his professional and spiritual life, he was a very versatile man. He loved to sing, dance, read, write and teach. We fondly remember the medley of songs compiled during his last days, which included the contemporary jazz classics and the most preferred – the new kingdom song – "Give me courage and He will call". These songs along with the surrounding warmth and love of his wife and kids provided him with the serenity he needed.

Those privileged to cultivate an intimate relationship with Prof understood from the onset that his faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses was steadfast. The truth defined the essence of his life and principles. It is the greatest heritage he imparted to his children.

Daddy fought the fine fight to the end, embodying the promise at Rev. 2:10,"…Prove yourself faithful even to death, and I will give you the crown of life. Sleep tight Daddy, until Jehovah calls and you will answer. John 5:28
