John R. Rees of Los Altos died January 17, 2016, John was 85 years old. John was born in Peru, Indiana and graduated from Peru High School where he was valedictorian of his senior class. He attended Indiana University, graduating in 1957 with a PhD in particle physics. From 1957 to 1965 John was a resident fellow at Harvard University's Cambridge Electron Accelerator. In 1965 he joined the faculty of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center from which he took a brief leave of two years of work at the U.S. Dept. of Energy in Washington D.C. John also served as the project manager of the Superconducting Super Collider in Texas from 1991 to 1994 and then returned to SLAC until his retirement.John is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marian, children John of San Jose, daughter Carol Wint (David) of Cornwall, England, grandchildren Haley Rees of Boston, MA, Linden Nazer (Ben) of Madrid, Spain and Hollian Wint of Abu Dhabi. John had a life-long love of music and was a long time subscriber to the San Francisco Symphony, the San Francisco Opera and Opera San Jose. A memorial service has yet to be scheduled.
