Dr. Lakshmi Narayan Goyal passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on April 15, 2023, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Madhu and two daughters Muneesha and Lipika Goyal.  He is also survived by four brothers, two sisters and many nieces and nephews who loved and cherished him deeply.

He was born the eldest son of eight children in Rohtak, India on October 19, 1941.  He studied electrical engineering and telecommunications at Jadavpur University and graduated first in his class.  He then immigrated to the United States in 1967 where he earned a Ph.D in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.  His research at both institutions contributed to the development of early supercomputers in India and the University of Illinois.

Just prior to the completion of his Ph.D he married Dr. Madhu Goyal in 1976.  The couple raised two children in New Jersey while he was working at Bell Laboratories.  He also worked at AT&T and NCR before retiring in 2001 to join his wife's medical practice.

Lakshmi had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.  He spent much of his spare time keeping up with current events and researching topics of interest.  When he wasn't quizzing his children at the dinner table about the news or conducting ground-breaking research, he spent his time helping people.  His selflessness and generosity knew no bounds.  People from all generations and walks of life sought out his advice and counsel.

He was passionate about education and he spent countless hours reading college and medical school applications and dispensing career advice to the younger generations.  He helped many people get on their feet when they first moved to the US and his was often the first friendly face they saw when they stepped off the airplane and onto American soil.  He would spend hours with Madhu's patients, supporting them sort through complicated insurance paperwork and was always there for them as a shoulder to lean on.

Lakshmi lived his life with integrity and was a selfless, brave, caring, and generous person. He will be remembered by the many lives he touched.
