The Schibler family sadly announces the passing of Laura Schibler, youngest child of Martin and Joan Schibler of Saratoga. Family was always Laura's touchstone. She prioritized spending time with siblings, nieces and nephews on weekends and during her vacation time. Laura moved back to the family home to help her Mother after a stroke, kept her Father safe and healthy in the family home until his death at age 92, and welcomed all to the family home for visits.  She was a ready volunteer for babysitting and special events.  Laura valued people, expanding her relationships to include everyone.  She started visiting her Mother at Our Lady of Fatima Villa nursing home after a debilitating stroke, and made so many friends there that she was still visiting Fatima residents 18 years later, until her own illness left her unable to go.

Laura attended Sacred Heart, Marshall Lane, and Rolling Hills schools, and graduated a year early from Archbishop Mitty High School. Her love of French and German languages in high school propelled her to Europe for a summer in France, then a year as an aupair speaking Swiss German with relatives in Basel, near the area from which her paternal grandparents emigrated.  She returned to California to finish her bachelor's degree in French and German at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Laura loved traveling; she visited Europe several times, went on medical and public health missions to Guatemala, and enjoyed Thailand just 6 months before her passing.

Laura worked for the County of Santa Clara, first at the Saratoga Library, then at the Planning Department. She spoke well of many of her co-workers, and enjoyed the variety of backgrounds of the people she met there.  She was approaching her 30-year anniversary with the County.

Laura left us too early at age 56 after years of quiet struggle with cancer. We are grateful to family members and to Hospice for ensuring she received the best care possible at home. She leaves behind siblings Matthew, Dan (Irma), Jeannie (Steve), Michael (Lisa), Joseph (Julie), Jim (Laura), and 13 nieces and nephews.  The family welcomes friends to attend a memorial Mass on Saturday June 17th, 11am, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Saratoga, and to a reception at the family home after the service.
