Lerelle passed away on Wednesday, July 6th, 2016 at Kaiser Hospital in Santa Clara, CA. She was 87.

She was the only daughter of Irvin Engle, a Methodist Minister, and Ethel Thompson, a school teacher. She had 2 older brothers, Kenneth and Royce, and all of them passed away many years before her. She was born in Los Angeles and attended Sequoia High School in Redwood City, CA and graduated from Occidental College in 1950. She was a teacher for 30 years, and spent most of her career teaching Kindergarten at Latimer and Baker Elementary Schools in the Moreland School District in Campbell, CA.

She was married to Bob Rice for 39 years and they lived in San Jose. She enjoyed camping, tennis, skiing, swimming, sewing and supporting their children's activities including baseball and softball, tennis, and school activities. Bob passed away in 1990 and Lerelle remarried a close family friend,
Frank Kazmierczak, in 1992. The Rice and Kazmierczak families had been friends for over 25 years and their union created a great extended family that is very supportive of each other.

Lerelle was always very active and was involved in the Kona Kai Swim & Racquet Club, and the Tea Timers and Road Rangers RV camping groups. She loved to travel, enjoyed meeting new friends around the world, and always had her camera in her hand to document the fun she was having along the way. She was especially proud of the volunteer work that she and Frank did, including helping to build a Children's Park in Medora, a historic town near the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.

She is survived by her daughter Sherri Bakos, son Scott Rice, Frank's children Julie Cox, Stan Kazmiercak and Becky Farley, as well as her 8 grandchildren Jenny, Ally, Jake, Kathryn, Jannae, Michael, Kyle and Gregory.

A Memorial service is being planned for family and friends on Saturday, August 6th at the Shoup Garden House in Los Altos, CA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation (TRMF) www.medora.com, or the Environmental Volunteers (EV) who promotes hands-on science education for 12,000 children in Santa Clara & San Mateo County schools www.EVols.org.
