Lester George Sachs passed away at his home in Saratoga, California on April 19th, 2022. He was 92. His wife of 53 years Claire Carmel Sachs, nee Campbell, preceded him in death in 2009.

Lester was born on March 8th, 1930 to Benedict Columbus and Ruth Marie Mitchell Sachs of Seattle, Washington. The family later moved to Alameda, California. Lester was elected President of his class at Alameda High School, and after high school, attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity and the US Army Reserve Officer Training Corps. He served in the California State Legislature as Assistant to the Chief Clerk of the California Assembly from January to June of 1953. He graduated from UC Berkeley with a B.A. degree in Humanities in 1953.

After graduation, Lester received training as a Military Police officer at Camp Gordon in Georgia, and was stationed initially at Fort Lewis in Washington, with later duty as a first lieutenant in the MPs at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska until 1955. During his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service medal. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned to Alameda, California. He married Claire Campbell on February 4th, 1956 at St. Clement's Episcopal Church in Berkeley, California.

Lester moved with Claire to Boulder, Colorado and attended law school at the University of Colorado, but then transferred to The University of Santa Clara. During his law school years, he worked in construction in the Santa Clara Valley and clerked for the law firm of Kelly and Christy. He graduated in 1959, passed the bar exam in 1960 and became a successful sole practitioner beginning in 1962, specializing in construction and mechanics lien law.

Lester practiced law in San Jose for a total of 56 years. He was a member of the State Bar of California,Associated General Contractors of California, adjunct construction law professor and member of the  Board of Fellows at Santa Clara University, a panelist and instructor for Continuing Education of the Bar, and a Judge Pro Tem for the Santa Clara County Superior Court.

Lester worked hard for his family. He loved the law. He enjoyed history, gardening, blackjack and cribbage. He and Claire started their family in Santa Clara and then moved to Saratoga, California in 1970. He resided in the family home in Saratoga for 49 years.

He is survived by his three daughters Leslie S. Ingram of San Jose, Lee S. Morrison (m. Alan Morrison) of San Jose, Lisa S. Mills (m. James Mills) of Santa Clara, and four grandchildren: Mitchell Morrison and Ashton, Tucker and Callahan Mills.

Funeral services will be held at Saratoga Federated Church, 20390 Park Place, Saratoga, CA 95070 at 10 a.m. on May 6th, to be followed by a burial at Madronia Cemetery, 14766 Oak St, Saratoga, CA 95070. Donations to https://yosemite.org/
