Li Yi

December 21, 1979 – August 23, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Yi Li—beloved husband, father, son, and friend—who passed away on August 23, 2026, at the age of 46.

Born in Guangzhou, China, Yi studied Computer Science at South China University of Technology, where he met his wife, Haizan. Their partnership spanned three decades of shared life, including twenty years of marriage. Yi earned his PhD from the University of Maryland and built a distinguished career in academia at The Australian National University and in artificial intelligence research at Google. Across his professional journey, he was widely respected for his brilliant mind, integrity, and generosity as a mentor.

Above all, Yi was devoted to his family. A loving husband and proud father to his two children, he treasured every moment spent supporting their growth, sharing his lifelong love of violin and classical music at home, and enjoying quiet companionship with the family dog, Boba. A man of quiet strength and thoughtful counsel, he brought patience, humor, and a grounding calmness to every room he entered. His gentle wisdom and warmth left an enduring mark on everyone who knew him.

Yi is survived by his wife, Haizan; his children, Marcus and Ruby; his loving parents in China; and extended family, friends, and colleagues around the world.

He will be deeply missed, forever cherished, and always remembered.
