Lilian was born in Dairut, Egypt and raised in Sohag, a small town in upper Egypt, the youngest of four children. In 1966, she immigrated to the United States to marry her husband of nearly 60 years, Samir Kamal, in Berkeley, California. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Bacteriology at UC Berkeley in 1968, then went on to earn a Master in Clinical Laboratory Sciences at Michigan State University in 1972. She worked as a leader in the clinical laboratories of Pontiac and Hoag hospitals. She later earned a Master of Health Services Administration at George Washington University in 1983 and served as the administrator of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown University.

Along with Samir and her two children, Heba and Mark, Lilian made homes in Troy, Michigan; Irvine, California; Oakton, Virginia, and finally in Saratoga, California, where she lived for nearly 40 years. During that time she had a remarkable career in hospital administration and worked as the Business Manager in many departments at the Stanford University School of Medicine, including the departments of Anesthesia, Surgery, Pathology and Pediatrics. She played additional administrative roles at Baylor University in Houston and Wayne State University in Detroit. After her retirement from Stanford Medical School, she also served as the Assistant Director of H-STAR, an interdisciplinary research center at Stanford, focusing on human sciences and technology.

Lilian is preceded in death by her parents Dr. William Abadeer and Aida Venis Tadros; her brother, Dr. Wagdi Abadeer and sister, Nadia William.

She is survived by her husband Samir Kamal, her sister Haidi Hamm, daughter, Heba (Joseph Levitt) and son Mark (Jennifer). Known as "Lola" to her grandchildren - Lexie, Luke, Gabby, Elin, Bowen and Evelyn - she loved nothing more than spending time with them. She even had a treehouse constructed for them in her beloved garden, which she tended to with great care and joy. She was a lover of gardening, music, travel and cooking shows.

A woman of generous spirit, Lilian stood as a shining example of brilliance, strength, and elegance. While we will forever miss her beautiful smile and sense of humor here on Earth, we remember, "blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted" and we rejoice in the promise of eternal life.
