Madeline was born in San Jose at O'Connor Hospital and grew up in Cupertino and Monta Vista. She attended Fremont High School and San Jose State University.

She worked at Carl N. Swenson Construction Company, which is where she met Henry. Madeline and Henry married, moved to Saratoga, and started their family of six children.

Madeline is survived by their children Joanna, Maryellen, Jim, Joe, Doug, their spouses, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Henry Clarke, Sr. and her son Thomas Henry Clarke, Jr.
