Obituary

Margaret (Midge) Eulalia Sweeney, beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandma and great grandmother passed away peacefully at home in the care of loved ones on December 27, 2020.

She was born in Tacoma, WA in 1927 to Martin J. Dooley and Margaret J, Dooley (McNerney).  She was the youngest of four children.  She was preceded in death by her husband James, siblings Marie Claire Dooley (Martin), Elizabeth Dooley (Dougherty), Martin Dooley and son Kevin.

She attended Aquinas Academy in Tacoma and the College of Puget Sound. She grew up surrounded by an active extended family and very much enjoyed playing the role of a young aunt to her sister Betty's four children as well as that of a warm hearted cousin and friend.

Margaret married her loving husband, James I. Sweeney in 1950 at St. Leo's in Tacoma WA.  They eventually moved to Saratoga in 1957 into their forever home.  Margaret was an amazing stay-at-home mother and she and Jim raised six children, Jim (Eileen) of Shell Beach, Martin (Nancy) of Sacramento, Kevin (Patty) of Livermore, Terence (Erin) of Modesto, Maureen (Ralph Marquez) of La Selva Beach and Michael (Stacy) of San Jose.  Margaret is survived by five children, eleven grandchildren and five great-grand children.

Margaret thrived on family and was the most enthusiastic fan of her children's, grand children's and great grand children's sports, events, dance recitals, musical performances and academic achievements.  She was happiest hosting family and friends for gatherings and reunions at their Saratoga home or in the parking lot of a Giants or 49er game.

She loved good books, beautiful gardens and hand-made items,  Margaret enjoyed attending Art and Craft fairs, Garden Shows and visited the library frequently especially in her later years,  Family and friends spent many wonderful hours out in the beautiful yard and around the huge picnic table.

Margaret was guided by her faith and very involved in the Catholic Church.  At Sacred Heart she was a member of YLI and gifted many babies through her work in the Layette program.  She was a member of the Women's Club, Bible Study Club, Eucharistic Ministry and Alter Society.  At Mitty High School she helped in the office, was member of the Booster Club and headed fund raisers for both schools,  She spent countless hours transporting kids to and from practices, games and field trips, doing yard duty, cooking, baking and cleaning up after events.

Margaret was a generous, thoughtful, loving person with the gift for making everyone feel special and welcomed.  Her house was the home away from home for many.  She will be dearly missed.

Her funeral mass was held at Sacred Heart on Jan 4, 2021, and she is buried at Madronia Cemetery where she rests with her husband James.  A celebration of life will be held in the future when we are able to gather safely.
