Marina was born in San Francisco and grew up in Redwood City.  Marina was married to Ugo Panontin for 41 years.  They began their life together in Sunnyvale, moving to Saratoga in 1965.

She attended Our Lady of Mount Carmel grammar school and Notre Dame, Belmont high school.

Marina was a bowler, loved country music and family cruises.  She was a fan of the SJ Sharks, SF Giants, SJ Sabercats, and SF 49ers.  Her favorite years were those watching her granddaughter as a SaberKitten and Gold Rush cheerleader.

Marina's favorite activity was the time spent with her daughters and their families including her 9 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.  She spent many weekends watching high school and college sports, dance competitions, and enjoying the company of all her loved ones.

Marina is survived by her three daughters: Claudia Gilbert Jones (Larry), Laura Kirkland (Willie), and Maryanne Toy (Steve).  Her car sported a license plate that read NONNIE9 in honor of the 9 grandchildren who survive her: Michael Gilbert (Meggie), Jonathan Gilbert (Carol), Christina Gilbert (Lauren), Joseph Gilbert (Dallas Carter), Nicole Kirkland, Natalie Kirkland, Christopher Toy (Grace), Rebecca Toy, and Katie Toy.  She leaves with love, her three great grandchildren: Savannah Gilbert, Mitchell Gilbert, and Siena Marina Gilbert, children of Michael.

Marina was preceded in death by her parents, Marino (Mike) and Lena Bracconi Merlet and her husband, Ugo Panontin (1995).

A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Parish, 13716 Saratoga Ave, Saratoga, CA. 95070, on Saturday Aug. 7, 2021 at 8:30am.
