Mary Joanne
Levis
Jul 11, 1926 — Aug 16, 2025
Mary J. Levis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, at the age of 99. Born on July 11, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Martha Sullivan. She grew up with her beloved younger sister, Gertrude. When Gertrude joined the convent, her best friend was Sister Joan, the sister of Jim Levis. The story goes that it took some maneuvering, but they finally introduced Mary and Jim, and they then married at the age of 22. When they got married, they stayed for 7 years in the area, and then got transferred and lived in Florham Park, New Jersey. Their next transfer took them to Glenview, Illinois. For the last 52 years of her life, Mary resided in Saratoga, California and often remarked how lucky she was that Jim was transferred here.
Mary was the devoted wife of James Joseph (Jim) Levis, who preceded her in death on March 5, 2007. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and purpose. Mary was alone, but not lonely for 10 years after Jim's death. She then had a deep and caring relationship with Joe Ross, whom she met at Sacred Heart Parish, until Joe's passing a year ago.
Mary was also preceded in death by her eldest son, James Joseph (Jim) Levis, Jr., who passed away in April 2007.
Mary is survived by four loving children: Kathy Bousquet (René), John Levis (Greta), Tom Levis (Linda Marie), and Anne Marie Levis (Dana Siebert). She was a cherished grandmother to Mary (Patrick), Renee, David, Julie (Evren), Connor, Dylan, Julian, Erin (Austin), Joseph (Michelle), Abby (Brad) and Raveena (Nathan). Her great-grandchildren will miss having her loving and encouraging presence: Ben, Claudia, Natalie, Lukas, Noah, Leyla, Nadia, Alexander, James and Henry.
A woman of many talents and interests, Mary was a founding member of Saratoga Country Club, and was an avid golfer and an exceptional bridge player. She volunteered extensively throughout her life, always giving of her time and heart. Among her many acts of service, she especially treasured her time at Martha's Kitchen, where she volunteered regularly alongside dear friends, serving meals and spreading kindness to those in need. Mary was very active in Sacred Heart Parish. She was a member of the Women's Club, the YLI, and Faith Sharing Groups. If anyone needed help, she was the first to volunteer.
Mary will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her grace, warmth, generosity, and unwavering love. Donations can be sent to Sisters of Notre Dame, 1520 Ralston Ave, Belmont, CA 94002.
A Funeral Mass will be held in celebration of her life on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Saratoga, California. Following the service, there will be a reception in the parish hall.
