Meera was born in the town of Kundapur in India, the middle child sandwiched between two brothers.  She was a giving, spirited and energetic child who had an idyllic childhood in both rural and urban settings surrounded by family, extended family, cats, dogs, cows and even a deer.

She married an equally wonderful person, B. N. Chikarmane, with whom she had four children.  A devoted mother, she was a high functioning, involved, kind and generous.  Exceptional talent, skillful hands, abundant energy and a large heart made for custom-stitched clothes, a constant and fresh supply of fresh-baked goodies, the best of Indian and world cuisines.

She ensured that both Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy made custom stops at our home in India in a time and age when practically no other child in India had this experience.  She created truly magical times even in the midst of struggle.

Meera was an avid reader with well-informed views of world politics, geography, geology, wildlife and much, much more. The Library was her favorite place, and she made sure there were always stacks of library books for her children to consume.

She was widowed early and devoted the rest of her life to helping her four children raise theirs.  She is survived by her four children: Sanjay, Vinay, Supriya and Vineet, their spouses: Shrilekha, Sujata, Bhanu and Deepa, her eight grandchildren: Anisha, Neha, Roshan, Mansi, Viraj, Akaash, Inika and Ved and two grandsons-in-law: Rahul and Akash.

In her last few years at Atria Park of San Mateo, she cared for the people and plants there, even as they cared for her, with love, sincerity and devotion.
