Patricia Mary
Pick Watt
Jul 31, 1945 — Apr 26, 2022
Patricia Mary Pick Watt, 76, of San Jose, CA passed away on April 26th, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents June and Robert Pick, her brother Robert, her husband of 47 years, James Watt, and daughter Catherine Watt. She is survived by her sister Janet, her three children, Elizabeth, David, and Steven, and two grandchildren Jessica and Chloe.
Jim and Pat moved their family to San Jose in 1971. They loved living in California and exploring this beautiful state. Pat enjoyed long car rides, especially along the Coast.
She graduated from San Jose State University with a Bachelor of Science in 1981. She majored in Business Administration (Accounting specialty) and mathematics. She wanted to lead the way for her kids, completing her degree before they did.
She was a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, completing her final exam in 1975. In 1981 she started her private practice providing consulting and valuation services for attorneys and third party administrators. During her 40 years she enjoyed the challenges of the actuarial business and helping people understand what the calculations meant. Her favorite quote about actuarial services was:
"Actuaries solve a problem you didn't know you had in a way you can't understand."
She took pride in the reports she prepared and worked hard at making the numbers accessible and understandable. She remained active in her practice until her death.
Pat loved to read, quilt, sew, and knit. In her younger years, she knit incredible sweaters with intricate cables. Later in life, quilting was her favorite craft. The challenge of cutting and piecing together fabric to create beautiful patterns brought her much joy. She also dabbled in writing science fiction and enjoyed the creative outlet.
Pat loved visiting the Marine Mammal Center in Marin. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Marine Mammal Center in her name.
