Patrick Robert Allen, 72, died suddenly at home on December 4, 2020. He was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and was the youngest child of James and Anita (Daley) Allen. After graduating from Southwest High School he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his time in service he met and married his wife of 48 years, Charlene Torley, and they had two children, Katherine and Sean. Pat proudly served his country for eight years, serving on the USS Mauna Kea, USS Midway and the USS San Jose during the Vietnam War. In 1977, Pat left the Navy and he and Charlene moved with their children first to Santa Clara then to San Jose and finally to Cupertino where they have lived for the last 32 years. Following his time in the Navy, Pat worked at Varian, Ampex, SyQuest Technology and Apple.

Pat was deeply devoted to his family, friends, and hobbies. When his children were young he spent countless hours volunteering at their schools, coaching their sports teams and serving as Scout Master for his sons Boy Scout troop. As the kids got older they spent many years with Pat volunteering at San Jose Family Camp. Pat was an active member of the Friends of San Jose Family Camp, serving on the Board of Directors for many years.

Pat enjoyed several different interests and hobbies in retirement. Pat and his son-in-law got into beekeeping several years ago at which time he joined the Santa Clara Bee Keepers Guild where he remained active until his passing. He enjoyed keeping everyone he met supplied with ample honey and fruit from his backyard. He was also well known for his famous Christmas and Hanukkah gingerbread cookies, a tradition that will be carried on by his children and grandchildren. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed weekly hikes with a close group of his good friends.

Pat would go out of his way to help people. He could fix anything and was always offering his time and knowledge. His selfless acts touched the lives of many people who will miss him dearly. May his memory be a blessing.

Pat is survived by his loving wife Charlene Torley; his sister Barbara (Jack) Holten; his children Katherine (Milton) Primas of Alamo and Sean Allen of Vacaville; grandchildren Sophia and Andrew Primas and David, Daniel and Justin Allen. He is predeceased by his brother, US Marine Corps veteran Richard Allen.

Due to the COVID pandemic, a memorial to celebrate the life and memories of our beloved Pat will be held in the future when it is once again safe to gather. It was Pat's wish to be cremated and have his ashes scattered at sea which will be done in the coming weeks by his family underneath the Golden Gate Bridge which he sailed under when he first arrived in the Bay Area.
