Obituary

It is with deep love and profound sadness that the family of Patty Sauling Yuen announces her peaceful passing on August 10, 2025. Patty (解秀玲) was born in Hong Kong (香港) on October 20, 1949, the beloved daughter of Kai Suen-Yau (解純遙) and Wong Fong-Yang (王鳳蓉).

She was the devoted wife of Richard Ng Yuen (伍華恩), cherished mother to Kenneth Ng Yuen (伍偉健) and Keith Ng Yuen (伍偉俊), and proud grandmother to Kai Hieu Thao Yuen, Avery Ng Yuen (伍唯心), and Wesley Ng Yuen (伍德樑). Patty was a loving sister to Kai Sau Wah Matty (解秀華) and Kai Ho Yee Andy (解可義), and is reunited in peace with her late eldest brother Kai Ho Yan Gordon (解可仁) and youngest brother Kai Ho Suen Tommy (解可信).

Patty's journey began at Pui Ching School (培正) in Hong Kong, where she graduated with the Class of 1968. She was the first in her family to move to the United States, earning her B.S. in Microbiology from Kansas State University. A dedicated and skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Patty served at Kaiser Permanente Medical Group for over 42 years, touching the lives of countless colleagues and patients before retiring in 2016.

In 1975, Patty married her loving husband, Richard, and together they built a warm and welcoming home in Saratoga, California, where they raised their two sons. Patty became a U.S. citizen on August 9, 1983, and embraced the community around her with kindness and generosity.

In her retirement, Patty found joy in line dancing with friends, knitting and crocheting for loved ones, traveling to Asia and Europe, attending her treasured Pui Ching reunions, and spending time with her grandchildren in Southern California. Her warmth, laughter, and gentle spirit brought comfort to all who knew her.

Patty faced her two-and-a-half-year battle with pancreatic cancer with courage, grace, and gratitude, cherishing the moments she spent with friends and family near and far.

Her family is deeply grateful to all who have offered love, support, and prayers during this time, and to those traveling long distances to honor her memory.
