Paul Curtis Vogel, age 78, passed away peacefully on Aug. 8, 2018, at El Camino Hospital.  Paul was born in San Francisco on Jan. 10, 1940, to Paul and Genevieve Vogel.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Arlene Vogel.  Paul is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis, his sons Kevin (Bev) and Chris (Kerry), grandchildren Erika Sanchez (Sal), Sarah, Jessi, and Sam Vogel, great grandsons Levi and Cole Sanchez, and his faithful companion, Barney.

Paul moved to Sunnyvale when he was one year old.  He attended Sunnyvale elementary and junior high schools, and he graduated from Fremont High School in 1957.  He graduated from San Jose State University in 1966 with a degree in international relations.  Apart from a few short term jobs he spent his entire career with Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. in Sunnyvale.  Paul and Phyllis were married in 1962 and they moved to Saratoga in 1971.  Paul was active in sports and music with their sons, Kevin and Chris.  He coached Little League and AYSO soccer and was active in Lynbrook High School Music Boosters and Athletic Boosters.  He continued his interest in youth sports by helping coach his grandson, Sam, in Little League.  He was a lifelong bay area sports fan, following the Giants, 49ers, and Warriors.

Paul's hobbies included traveling, gardening, and golf.  He and Phyllis made many trips together as well as many trips with Kevin, Chris, and their families.  Paul loved family houseboat vacations at Lake Shasta, camping and fishing at the stunningly beautiful Wright's Lake in the Desolation Wilderness, family cruise vacations to the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe, spending time at Lake Tahoe and traveling to Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico and Whistler, Canada with Phyllis for annual golf trips with good friends.  He especially loved enjoying a Long Island Iced Tea or a Mai Tai with his family during the sail away party on the many cruise vacations they took.  Paul never passed up the opportunity to enjoy an ice cream sundae with all the toppings.  He was a Lionel train enthusiast and enjoyed operating electric trains, building and flying model airplanes, and reading about the history of World War II.  He loved his yard, and he reluctantly agreed to hire a gardener after a recent surgery.  He was a volunteer at Deep Cliff Golf Course for many years.  He was an active member of Sons in Retirement, Branch 32, having served as Big Sir and chairing various committees over the years.  He participated in many SIR golf events and tournaments.

Paul was a devoted and well-loved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  His sons and grandchildren and their families were very special to him.  He always looked forward to spending time with them as often as possible.

The family invites you to a Celebration of Paul's Life on Saturday, September 8, at Paul and Phyllis' home, 12144 Covina Court, Saratoga.  Please drop in anytime between 1:00 and 5:00 p.m. to enjoy a taco and share some memories of Paul.  This will be a casual open house, nothing formal.  Plan to park at Blue Hills School, 12300 DeSanka Ave., Saratoga.  We will have a shuttle to drive you to the Vogel home.
