Qing Ma passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26 at 7:50 AM, following a four-year battle with colorectal cancer. He is survived by his wife, Wei, and sons, Andrew and James.

Qing was born on October 26, 1962, in the town of Jinde in Anhui, China. He grew up with his father, Zhe Ma, and his brother, Hong Ma. He graduated from Zhejiang University in 1984 and was selected to study in the US. He received his MS in Physics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986 and his PhD in Materials Science from MIT in 1991. He then worked as a post-doctoral fellow at UC Santa Barbara before joining Intel in 1994, where he has remained since. While completing his PhD he met Wei, whom he married in 1988. They eventually settled down in the Bay Area, where they raised two sons.

Qing was a loving father, dedicated husband, and caring son. He was also a great brother and wonderful uncle. He was an inventor at heart and a true scientist. His unique sense of humor and vivid storytelling brought joy to those around him. He was selfless to his family and was devoted to his work.
