Dr. Ralph W. Tanner, a longtime Saratoga resident, passed away 19 days shy of his 90th birthday on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024. He was born the 18th of November 1934 in New York City and was preceded in death by Martha, his wife of 45 years.

He is survived by sons Kevin of Saratoga, CA and Jim of Seattle, WA, daughter Tracy Tanner of Oxnard, CA, grandchildren Samantha Early and Jack Tanner, Ethan and Emma Watanabe, Finley, Rex, Bea and Posey Tanner, and great granddaughter Evie Early. He is also survived by daughters-in-law Kimberly Tanner and Wynne McIntosh, grandson-in-law Andrew Early, and half-brother Winthrop Rodewald of St. Petersburg, FL.

He was the son of the late Kenneth W. Rodewald and Sylvia Bernath Rodewald of New York City.

Dr. Tanner practiced medicine in Santa Clara County from 1964 through 1998 excepting service in the U.S. Army from 1966 through 1968, during which period he spent eight months in Vietnam's Central Highlands and was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor for heroism in ground combat. He served as president of the O'Connor Hospital medical staff in 1985.

He loved his family, serious music and the St. Louis Cardinals and was an unpublished novelist.

Late in life he lived with retired professor Dr. Mirella D'Ambrosio Servodidio of New York City, who gave him love and joy during what became the best years of his life. He adored her, and he also cherished her family: son Gianni Servodidio and granddaughter Natalie Servodidio of Manhattan, NY, and daughter Carla Jones, son-in-law Tom Jones, and grandchildren Jessie and Christopher Jones of Bellmore, NY.

Ralph was one-of-a-kind, and he will be missed.

He is buried in Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga, CA.
