Ram Paul
Gupta
Mar 1, 1938 — Jan 14, 2018
Saratoga
Ram Paul Gupta, most commonly called Paul, was a longtime resident of Saratoga. He passed away on Jan. 14, 2018 from complications from cancer, surrounded by his loving family up to his last breath.
He was born in Punjab, India in 1938. Raised in a large, close-knit family, Paul left India in 1957, against all financial odds, for a hard-fought opportunity to attend college at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Graduating in 1961 with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he promptly began working in Silicon Valley at Fairchild Semiconductor. Thus began a long and industrious career in the semiconductor industry, with senior management positions at Raytheon Semiconductor and GE Semiconductor as the President of Intersil. He had a variety of professional and entrepreneurial accomplishments that culminated in his last position before retirement as the CEO and Chairman of the Board at Quality Semiconductor.
A positive force to be reckoned with, he was a man who simply loved life, his family, friends, a nice glass of wine and a beautiful view. He loved playing poker, traveling all over the world, walking on the beach, and going to parties. He believed that everyone should have access to education so he created a non-profit and started a K – 12 school in his native India which continues to educate 950 students annually. He was a co-founder of The Indus Entrepreneur, a local non-profit that helped provide guidance and funding to aspiring entrepreneurs of all kinds.
He is survived by a large, loving family and friend circle who will remember him always.
