Richard F.
Irion
Dec 28, 1928 — Feb 10, 2022
Dick was born on December 28, 1928, in Portland, Oregon. He was the second child of Donald and Helen Irion. His sister, Dorothea, was 6 years older, and he didn't see much of after she was sent to live in Colorado due to asthma issues, so he was like an only child.
He went to school in a small two room school house, probably had to walk up hill both ways, and it was always in the snow. After high school, he went to the University of Colorado, Boulder, and joined the fraternity Phi Delta Theta. After graduation from college, he joined the Air Force, and through a mutual friend, met Diane Allen, his first wife. They had two daughters, Susan and Sherrill, moving to Saratoga in 1964.
After trying his hand at a couple of different jobs, he landed in banking, and stayed in that career for well over 25 years. First National Bank of San Jose, later called Bank of the West, was his home away from home in Los Gatos. He was known in town for his trust in character, his civic contributions to people and organizations, and as Mr. Los Gatos by his older daughter.
Dick had strong civic ties, including Rotary, Kiwanis, the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce, but he also enjoyed social activities, including the Saratoga Men's Club, the Sainte Claire Club in San Jose, and La Rinconada Country Club in Los Gatos.
He enjoyed tennis, roller skating, bike riding, and playing games with his daughters. And we can't forget his love of music and dancing. Put on some old 45s, and the dance party could begin.
After Diane passed in 1998, he found love again when he married Adrienne Suzanne Roberts. They were married in 2000, and not long after, they found themselves as stranded travelers in Europe on September 11, 2001.
Dick is survived by his wife, Suzanne Irion; his daughter, Susan I. Nonnenberg, her husband Wade Nonnenberg, their two children, Scott Nonnenberg and Madeline Bramer; and daughter, Sherrill I Kuc, her husband, Gary Kuc, and their daughters, Kate and Mia.
Dick was grandfather to Gary and John Roberts' children, Suzanne's grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 26 , at 11:00 , at St. Andrew's Church in Saratoga.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Humane Society.
