While Saratoga slept, Bob the Baker was at his Saratoga Plaza Bakery getting fresh baked goods out by six o'clock in the morning. He was recently honored by the Saratoga Historical Society in May 2016, for over 55 years of service to the community.

Bob passed away peacefully, May, 25th at Villa Fatima, Saratoga. He had a good mind and sense of humor to the end. He was 87 years old. Unable to walk, he missed his friends, especially his singing groups: the Sacred Heart choir of Saratoga, the St. Lucy's choir of Campbell, the Skillet Lickers of Saratoga, formed by Les Landin, the Cupertino Choraliers, directed by Laura Green, the Fun Times Singers, directed by Kevin Comier, and his old friends at the Valley Chorale in Cupertino, directed by Marian Gay and Cathy Beaupre.

He was born in Watsonville, CA. on July, 9th, 1929. He attended Watsonville High and graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in business. He was a member of the Saratoga Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. He served on the board of directors at the Southwest YMCA, the Saratoga Senior Center, the Fun Times Singers, and the Italian American Heritage Foundation. He had the disposition to help, moderate and solve problems. He was a kind, gentle man who saw good in all those he met.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Assunta Cancellieri, and his sister, Elaine Gerzovich. He is survived by his wife Shirley of 52 years and two children; Sheryl and Robbie Cancellieri and son in law Grant Denton, three grandchildren; Oliver, Sabine and August Denton. Also, his sister Margaret Negranti of Cayucos.

A memorial and celebration of his life will be held on June, 24th, at 11:00am for family and friends at Alameda Funeral Home, 12341 Saratoga - Sunnyvale Rd., Saratoga, CA 95070. A lunch reception to follow.
