Robert "Bob"
Michael Gorski
Jul 16, 1952 — May 28, 2020
Saratoga
Written in collaboration with his older brother, John H. Gorski
Robert "Bob" Michael Gorski, age 67, died peacefully but unexpectedly at his home on the afternoon of May 28, 2020, with his wife at his side.
Bob was born at Norwegian American Hospital in Chicago, IL on July 16, 1952 to his parents Betty Jean (nee Crowley) and Harold B. Gorski. Jr
Bob lived in Wheaton, Illinois until age 4, then lived on the NW side of Chicago.
Bob attended St. Thecla Grammar School, St. Patrick High School, and the University of Illinois, Circle Campus, where he graduated with honors in 1974. From a family of immigrants, Bob was the first in the family to graduate from a major university.
Bob met the love of his life and soulmate Donna through a business associate in October, 1977. Bob, who never hesitated to act on his instincts married Donna on May 20, 1978 in Elmhurst, Illinois. They resided in Wood Dale, Illinois after marriage. Bob and Donna were happily married for 42 years.
After graduation, in 1974 Bob worked for Price Waterhouse Co. Chicago, the accounting firm where he decided he wanted to work when he was 12 years old after reading about the firm in his family's Encyclopedia Britannica. PWC instilled in him high ethics that he incorporated into his professional and personal life.
When offered an opportunity as Assistant Controller with Amdahl Corporation in Sunnyvale, CA., in 1980, Bob and Donna moved to California and Bob's career in high tech began. He then accepted positions at Kapro Corp as Controller/ Treasurer in San Diego, at Impact Co. as CFO in the Bay Area, and Mission Research Co. as CFO in Santa Barbara. They then moved back to Saratoga, in the Bay Area, in 2004 where he and Donna retired. Together they enjoyed life, love, travel, and the great outdoors that California has to offer. In particular, the Pacific Coast where they were known to often escape for a couple of weeks at a time, walking along the ocean and collecting sea shells, just watching the waves roll in and out, and the different changes in the Pacific depending on the season. But most of all, they treasured the time they had together.
Bob was a kind, generous, thoughtful and sincere gentleman who shared his great sense of humor with others. He was loved by all he came in contact with who enjoyed his sense of humor, ease at making everyone comfortable and his undisputed pizza making skills.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean (nee Crowley) Gorski and his father, Harold B. Gorski Jr. Bob is survived by his wife Donna (nee Leesley) Gorski, lifelong and best friend Billy Rzepka, his 3 brothers John, William and David, 3 nieces and many friends and business associates scattered across the country and abroad.
Bob's paternal family branch heralded from Pruszcz (Prust), West Prussia now Poland and the surrounding Kashubian area.
Bob's maternal family branches came to the USA from Lismore, County Waterford, Ireland, Germany and France.
A fine man of honor and integrity, one of Illinois' finest gifts to California, Bob's final wishes were that we honor his memory by lending support to Donna.
Donna wishes to thank all of family and friends for their support during this difficult time.
