Savithri "Sasi" Subramanian (born Dec 12, 1943)  passed away peacefully on Tuesday July 29, 2025 at 1:30am in Cupertino CA.

The only thing stronger than Sasi's faith in Hanuman ji was her faith in humanity and her love for others. She made deep friendships everywhere she lived: Buffalo NY, Pilani Rajasthan, DC-Baltimore area, Tavares FL, and Bay Area CA. She touched many lives and many people came to see her as a second mother or a sister.

At Pilani, she opened her doors to scores of college students and gave them a home away from home; many of them remained in touch with her decades after their graduations. She was a remarkable chef who had mastered South Indian, North Indian, and international cuisines. Her unpublished book of recipes had baker-level precision, which she generously shared with others. She could make the simplest dishes shine and converted many of her North Indian neighbors into thayir sadam lovers.

When the local kindergarten closed their doors, she raised funds, recruited volunteer teachers, and started and ran a preschool, where she was an early advocate for child-centered teaching. The Infant Care Center she started is, even now, a thriving school.

Even in the depth of her illness she always cared to know how others were, ask if they had eaten, and listen to their worries. In an unfamiliar or challenging situation, her philosophy was to talk to people and make them feel at home, as she believed all successes and good outcomes arose from human connection.

To others, she traversed seeming contradictions with ease. She was a traditional woman with modern sensibilities. She had a wicked sense of humor and voiced her opinion fearlessly, yet was the gentlest of souls who always made space for others. To Sasi, these were never in contradiction.

She is survived by her husband Hari, her children Raghu (Anu) and Sri (Ram), and her grandchildren Kavya, Shilpa, Vasudha and Lavanya.
