Obituary

Selma “Sally” Garcia, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2026, in Pleasanton, California, at the age of 86. She was born in Redwood City, California to Augustine and Selma Ochoa. She grew up surrounded by family, music and dance.

Selma graduated from Sequoia High School and worked for many years as a secretary, but her longest and most fulfilling career was a wonderful mother. She married Paul Garcia, also from Redwood City, California, after being introduced by their sisters, who were neighbors. While raising her children she volunteered in the classroom, was room mother and attended all her children’s many activities and sports where she also served as team mom. She was known for being a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and loved music, dancing, and living life to the fullest. Sally loved the outdoors, including camping, hiking and running. In her later years, she volunteered at Montalvo Arts Center and enjoyed many live concerts. She was very involved in her grandchildren’s activities too. You would find her in the classroom, at a dance recital, at a soccer game, baseball or football game and cheering along with her grandkids on the field or at a cheer competition. She loved being around people and loved listening to music, but mostly Elvis, Johnny Mathis and Tom Jones. She also loved heart jewelry.

She is survived by her children, Brenda (Scott) Meckenstock, Bruce (Ruth) Garcia, Amy (Steve) Yetso, and Grandchildren, Amanda (Nick) Amador, Danielle (Jack) Carlson, Rachel Yetso, Jason Yetso, Kiera Garcia and Tate Garcia. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Paul Garcia; sister, Lupe Stevens; brothers, Ray Ochoa, Adrian Ochoa and Augustine Ochoa. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Church of the Ascension Catholic Church, 12033 Miller Ave., Saratoga, CA 95070. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation in her name.
