Srinivasan Venkatraman Chidambaram (CVS) was born on August 11, 1929 in Madras (now Chennai), India. He passed away peacefully on February 21, 2024 surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren at home in Saratoga, California.

CVS spent his early years in Chidambaram and later attended college in Madras.  He moved with his widowed mother, Saradambal, to Secunderabad in the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh to work at the South Central Railways as a Claims clerk.  He married Vatsala Krishnamoorthi in 1962 and had two daughters, Aparna and Usha. He devoted all his working years to providing from his family and making sure his daughters had every opportunity to pursue their passions.  At a time when many parents were reluctant to send their unmarried daughters abroad for advanced education, he encouraged Aparna and Usha to take advantage of opportunities to attend graduate school in the US.

CVS was a fun, loving, and gentle person. He cherished spending time with his family, especially with his daughters, granddaughters, and pets. He immigrated to the US in 2008 and learned to love his new home country.  He loved meeting new people and building new friendships with everyone in the community. He was naturally curious and liked to explore places. He looked forward to his weekly trips to India Cash and Carry, accompanying the pets to their vet appointments and chatting with the workmen and the gardener.  He cared deeply for animals, and they all enjoyed his company in return. An accomplished  billiards and snooker player in his youth, he was an avid sports enthusiast - with a special interest in tennis and cricket.  His kindness, empathy, and compassion has touched many and will leave a lasting mark on his family and community.

CVS is survived by his wife, Vatsala, his daughters, Aparna and Usha, his son-in-law, Madhu, and his granddaughters, Maya, Asha, Urmila, and Mridhula and his cherished grand pets Milo, Maple, and Loki.
